Save Ameera’s Family in Gaza

I am Amira from Gaza. I used to live in a small house in Khuza’a with my husband and my beautiful son, Amir, whom I had after three years of struggle.
One day, life seemed normal. My husband had undergone back surgery (spinal disc surgery) in Egypt, and the doctor advised him to rest for six months before returning for a follow-up. After a few days of returning to Gaza, the war broke out on October 7. The airstrikes intensified, and our home was no longer safe. We decided to flee, carrying a few essentials, and sought refuge in Bani Suheila with my husband’s family.
A few days later, at 6 AM, a house near us was bombed, forcing us to flee again. We sought shelter at an UNRWA school in Khan Younis, where we set up a makeshift tent with my husband’s family.
Life in the tent was incredibly hard. The weather was scorching during the day and freezing at night. We lacked comfort and privacy. Even within the UNRWA school, we were not safe from constant shelling. One day, shrapnel from a nearby bomb hit our tent.
After three months in the school, we had to move again, searching for a safer place. We moved to Rafah, where my husband bought a new tent for us. However, with each displacement, my husband’s health deteriorated due to sleeping on the ground and exposure to damp conditions, contrary to the doctor’s orders.
After 5 days in Mawasi Khan Younis, my husband had to return to Egypt for medical follow-ups. He underwent another surgery and requires further procedures. Since he left, the Rafah border crossing has been closed, leaving me alone with my son, struggling with war, displacement, cold, and hunger.
I have faced difficult situations, such as standing daily in lines from 4 AM to get drinking water, and again at noon for salty water used for cleaning. Two months later, the area we were in was shelled, forcing us to flee without any belongings.
We have been displaced more than 8 times, repeatedly dismantling and setting up our tent until it became worn out. In our current location, we lack access to safe drinking water, and my 6-year-old son has contracted hepatitis twice due to contaminated water and food.
The situation is dire. My son, Amir, urgently needs your help to provide healthy food, clean drinking water, and winter clothes.
